Dog jobs

Assistance Dogs: They help people with disabilities. They usually go to a guide dog training school and learn how to help people. Some of them work with people that have a hard time getting around. Other dogs help blind or deaf people. There are also Therapy Dogs that help people feel better and not so sad.

Entertainment Dogs: Did you know that some dogs are actually actors? They are in movies and on television. There are also some dogs that are Show Dogs. They go to competitions and are judge for their intelligence and looks. We also read about some dogs that race. Greyhounds are used for racing quite a bit because they are very fast. When the greyhounds stop racing they retire and need homes. It's smart to adopt these dogs if you can.

Herding Dogs and Livestock Guardians: These are dogs that help farmers and ranchers. They will often help get all the cows and sheep into the pens. They are usually pretty fast and can scare the other animals into following directions. Other dogs help keep a watchful eye on the animals to make sure other animals, like wolves and bears will not hurt them.

Search and Rescue Dogs: These are very special dogs. They are trained to find people and save them. They can be any breed of dog. They have a very strong sesne of smell and are usually strong. They can be as helpful to rescuers as 10 human beings. Search and Rescue dogs were used during the 9/11 rescue and recovery in NYC.

Police Dogs: They are trained very hard to be good at their jobs. Some of them are trained to search for drugs. They are usually very good at tracking people and finding the bad guys.
